“ The food at Zap is amazing. The best Thai food I have had in the UK hands down. We haven’t ate in yet but have ordered takeaway several times. The staff is extremely welcoming to match the wonderful food. Not to mention they are accommodating for dietary restrictions and can do almost all the menu items gluten free. You won’t be disappointed! ”
“ Zap Thai: My Favourite Restaurant in Bury St Edmunds We visited Zap Thai on Halloween, and from the moment we walked in, the experience was fantastic. We were warmly greeted and shown to a cozy table next to a radiator—perfect for a chilly evening. I was pleasantly surprised with a new addition to the menu: a Gluten Free Mixed Starter inspired by feedback I’d left on a previous visit. This thoughtfulness is what makes Zap Thai my absolute favorite in Bury St Edmunds. The starter was a delight—two satay chicken skewers with a satay dip, two moo ping (pork skewers) with a perfectly spicy dip, two Thai fish cakes, and four sweet corn fritters served with a sweet chili dip. Each item was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. As someone with coeliac, I always feel completely comfortable at Zap Thai. From our first visit, the team took my allergy seriously and even did some research into the condition. Every visit since has been reassuring; I’ve never had a reaction here and always feel safe in their hands. Zap Thai provides one of the few anxiety-free meals I have when dining out, and I can’t thank them enough for making me feel truly safe. While we waited, we were brought some Thai prawn crackers made with tapioca flour, suitable for gluten-free diners. This level of attention to detail and care for dietary needs was truly appreciated. For our main courses, we ordered curries. I had the Chicken Green Curry—fragrant and beautifully balanced. I’ve tried their Penang, Jungle, and Green curries, and each one is always exceptional. My partner went for the Beef Massaman—rich and delicious as always. We also ordered Garlic Mixed Vegetables as a side, a dish we’ve grown to love. Along with Egg Fried Rice for me and Sticky Rice for my partner, everything was cooked to perfection. We may have over-ordered, but the staff kindly offered to pack up the leftovers, even adding a container of jasmine rice for our lunch the next day—a thoughtful touch we greatly appreciated. They also treated us to a Passion Fruit Mochi Ball each to finish off the meal—another lovely gesture. Our total, including two alcoholic drinks and a Rio, came to just under 80. At 40 per person for such high-quality, authentic Thai food, we found it to be excellent value. If you're reading this review, don't hesitate—book a table today! The food is superb, the service is exceptional, and I can’t wait to return. ”
“ We have recently moved to Bury, and have been a little bit let down by a few takeaways we have tried over the last few months. So we were a little nervous to order from Zap but we are so so pleased we did. Very polite and helpful on the phone (advised us it would take an hour but we were happy to wait), very polite and welcoming in the restaurant even though it was a busy Saturday night, and the food was all wrapped in cling film and still warm when we got home. We are big foodies and we both agreed it was one of the best takeaways we've ever had. I'm vegan and my partner's a meat eater and both were exceptional. Portions big enough to have it again the second night. Will definitely be visiting again, we can't rate them highly enough. ”
“ What a fabulous meal. We ordered take out and whilst ordering the lady went through all allergens with us and assured us that the food we had chosen was suitable for vegans. We’ve eaten at a lot of the restaurants in town and I’m generally slightly disappointed however this meal was absolutely wonderful. It was obviously made fresh (no poppty ping) and with love. The whole experience was refreshingly lovely, customer service was on point and the food was delicious. If you want to support your local independent restaurants then go here if I could give more stars I would. ”
“ We absolutely love this Thai restaurant! It is our families favorite place to celebrate every special occasion. The food is the most authentic Thai cuisine we've found outside of Thailand, and since my family lived there for many years, they can truly appreciate how spot-on the flavours are. The dishes are always delicious, fresh, and full of flavour, the atmosphere is warm and inviting too. The staff are so kind, welcoming, and always make us feel at home, which is why we keep coming back. It is truly a special place for our family, and we’re grateful for the wonderful memories we have created there. If you haven’t been, you should definitely give it a try — you won’t be disappointed! We love you POM and team x ”
“ As any local will know, Bury St Edmunds has a significant number of excellent restaurants and you'd be hard pressed to find a bad meal at any of the independent establishments. Zap Thai is a relatively unassuming restaurant located halfway down St John's Street - visitors to the town could be excused for missing it. It has a cosy atmosphere and gives off a genuine "family feel". The service is personal and incredibly friendly & attentive. On to the food. I haven't visited Zap Thai for some time, but I remember it being extremely good on last visit. Since then I have travelled extensively through south east Asia and sampled a wide range of Thai dishes. The biggest compliment I can pay to tonight's meal is that it tasted authentically Thai. Fresh produce, packed full of flavour, with a kick of spice for those who want it. All immaculately presented and cooked to order. The restaurant is intimate and this ensures the kitchen never appear to be overrun with orders. Well done to Pom and all of the team at Zap Thai - it was an absolute pleasure to visit this evening and we will be back again soon. ”
“ Would give more stars if I could!! Been 5/6 times and this is definitely our favourite restaurant in Bury!!! Service is exemplary and truly couldn’t be better (Pom is wonderful)! The food is divine and traditional (absolutely recommend the shared starter, red duck curry special and drunken noodles). Always go the extra mile and truly care about their diners (birthday balloon and complementary crackers and mini muffins)! Will always return here ”
“ I visited Zap Thai this evening, I live in Leeds but I am travelling for work. WOW! What a fantastic Thai restaurant this is. The Massaman Curry is the best I’ve ever had. You can’t beat authentic Thai cuisine and Zap is exactly that. Pom welcomed me with a huge smile, she was very kind and friendly. I will most definitely return here when I am next in BSE for work. ”
